State Highway 1

Over 2 years after the Kaikoura earthquake, there’s still a massive amount of work to be done, repairing the coastal rail and road lifeline between the top of the South Island and Christchurch.

You’ll see signs like this all the way down the highway,

Gran’s likely operating a digger.

The stop/go crews (and there are a LOT of them) are mostly younger.

Wave, and they wave back.

Being New Zealand, everybody waves….
