Here comes 94 year old bateau de pêche Lily, powering [sic] up the Waimea Inlet channel on a high-ish tide and into a wild sou-westerly with mon ami Patrice at the helm.
I zipped down to Port Hoddy just in time to see them charging the shore, just like at the knacker’s yards in Turkey..
We spent the next half hour or so en conversation tres enjoyable up to our
b***s upper thighs in water, waiting a) for the tide to drop before we could get the props to hold and b) for the darn thing to quit dancing around in the chop and wind.
She doesn’t look too bad for an old gal, but the closer you get, the better you see the ravages of time.
I was very close…
A new coat of paint should hold her together for a few more years, though…
