Smoke-free zone

Answerphone message:

“Thank you for calling New Zealand. The country is now closed until mid-January. Please call back later”

An old joke , sure, but there’s an element of truth in it.

The country really does close down for 3 weeks over Christmas and New Year and places like Kaiteriteri a bit up the coast or the Mapua Leisure Park across the estuary get a temporary population density that challenges Hong Kong or Singapore.

Which means that Nelson Pine on Lower Queen Street  in Richmond stops producing LVL and MDF  for the duration.

So how can you tell the wind direction without the plumes of steam?
