Why I shoot rabbits

This was a kowhai plant.

Cousin Shirl’s husband Tony raised it from seed.

I got it through last winter until it looked as good as the second picture.

In a few years, it would have been as big as picture 3 and carried golden blossoms, full of nectar for native birds.

Last night, the local bunnies stripped it.

I’m up at dawn tomorrow….
