This is Matteo and Bridget, one of his bevy of many lovelies, on the Nelson Market.

They make mozzarella, ricotta, scamorza and primosale at their Milk Drop dairy in Hastings St and if you get to the market early enough, you can get some.

Too late?

Bad luck.

Wait until next week.

This is the genuine article and it just flies off the shelf.

New Zealand’s come a long way since the days of my youth when 1lb blocks of  Mild and Tasty cheese (indistinguishable in both appearance and taste from lumps of soap) were all you could buy, but mozzarella and ricotta that taste Italian were as rare as hens’ teeth.

Not any more.

Grazie a mille!
